GODÂ’S CHOOSING APPRECIATES OUR VALUE!

If youÂ’ve ever owned a new car you know the feeling you get when you first sit behind the steering wheel. Remember that new car smell with all of those clean, unmarked seats covered over in plastic? Of course there was not a scratch to be found anywhere on the car. Can you recall how careful you were avoiding all of the potholes in the road? You may have even gone out of your way to park your car away from other vehicles in the shopping mallÂ’s parking lot. After all you wanted nobody to accidentally scratch or worse yet create a dent on your pristine new car. But then 12 months later, for many of us, the story changes. Fast forward a few years and the brand new vehicle that was worth thousands and which you treated as though it could not even be touched looks so different. Plus as you now look to sell it, you finally realize that you CHOSE, is no longer VALUED what it once did. Instead of APPRECIATING in VALUE, it has depreciated! It may be worth just a fraction of the original cost. For our FF for today I invite you to celebrate with me that when GOD is present and at work in our lives, our fortune is unlike the car of OUR CHOOSING. TodayÂ’s FF is a reminder that GODÂ’S CHOOSING APPRECIATES OUR VALUE!

Investors usually claim that the one of the sure things to APPRECIATE in VALUE is real estate. But the housing crisis in North America over the past few has proven otherwise. Millions of home owners who felt that their investment in home ownership would have secured their piece of the pie walked away disappointed. Can you imagine putting out that much money with the promise that this would eventually APPRECIATE only to have the opposite happen? How devastating to have CHOSEN to own your dream house only to have it depreciate! But don’t we also expect that certain relationships too should also APPRECIATE in VALUE. Parents CHOSE to give birth to or adopt children with the hope that as they grow into adulthood the parent – child relationship and connection should APPRECIATE in VALUE. Unresolved conflict and un-forgiveness though can cause a depreciated connection between parents and children. What about that man and woman, who after CHOSING to date and court each other, take a step towards marriage with great expectations. They believe that the years ahead would lead to an APPRECIATED VALUE of their sacred union. But we’ve all known and witnessed that not even that is guaranteed. Is life merely one depreciation after another? No!

The difference is GOD! Isn’t it amazing to see how when our lives have been surrendered completely to GOD’S control that somehow OUR VALUE moves in a totally new direction! Instead of heading towards decay and depreciation, GOD can take us and use us in such a powerful way for GOD’S Kingdom purposes. Eventually the VALUE of OUR lives APPRECIATES beyond OUR wildest dreams. But let’s remember that GOD’S VALUATION system is very different from that of the world. Quite often the world’s APPRECIATION VALUE is measured by the externals. But GOD’S APPRECIATION VALUE is determined by OUR servant’s heart as we demonstrate a willing obedience to follow faithfully GOD’S leading. St. Paul reminds the Corinthian believers and us today of just this truth that GOD’S CHOOSING APPRECIATES OUR VALUE. 1 Cor. 1: 26 – 29 say “Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God CHOSE things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he CHOSE things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God CHOSE things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.”

It is because we have received GOD’S amazing grace that we can testify that GOD’S CHOOSING APPRECIATES OUR VALUE! And to that we say – Amen!
