IN TIME

There something special and unique about TIME. We all have the same amount of TIME each day to do what we want to do. We make TIME for the things and people who we consider important. We find TIME to do the things we enjoy. But thereÂ’s a certain mystery to TIME, if mystery is the right word. On the one hand TIME is a gift that God has given each of us. What we do with that gift is our choice. Yet on the other we can sometimes feel as though we are prisoners of TIME. We always seemed pressed for TIME. We are short on TIME. TIME seems to be running away from us. This and that must be done by a certain TIME or else. TIME in some ways could be a blessing or a disaster depending on what happens IN TIME. ThatÂ’s our FF for today: IN TIME.
God is beyond TIME yet God created us as human beings to live IN TIME. Unlike God, we have a beginning and an ending. We can only operate IN TIME but God is not limited IN TIME or by TIME. The source of our struggle is that often our sense of TIME and GodÂ’s are not the same. And so we become impatient, restless, doubtful, even faith-less when things seem not to happen IN the TIME we expect. But a TIME will come when we will no longer be IN TIME. There is that tension in us too because we desire eternity and yet weÂ’re mindful of our being IN TIME.

How then do we deal with TIME since we are IN TIME? Ever thought or said
IN TIME, IÂ’ll change.
IN TIME, I will give my life over to the Lord.
IN TIME, we will have the perfect family vacation we always dream about.
IN TIME, things will get better and hopefully not worse.
IN TIME, my children will come to appreciate the sacrifices IÂ’m now making for them.
IN TIME, all will be well.
IN TIME, truth and justice will prevail.
IN TIME, God will show up and intervene.

We can expect so many things to happen IN TIME. ThatÂ’s good. But not everything we expect to happen IN TIME does. When that is the case we canÂ’t afford to let ourselves feel defeated. For the real truth is that when God is involved, IN TIME comes not only with a promise but also with a calm assurance that God IN TIME will. But what does not often accompany GodÂ’s IN TIME is the when and where IN TIME. And that leaves us either second guessing God and ourselves, or holding on in faith believing that yes IN TIME, God will. I donÂ’t know when or how, but I know IN TIME God will.

So until next Friday, continue giving praise and thanks to God for the TIME that has been given to you as a gift. Make full use of it because IN TIME, you and I will have to give an account of how we used this gift of TIME that has been given to us mindful that there will come a TIME when TIME shall be no more.
