Amos 6:6

You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.   Amos 6:6 (NIV)

During this festive season, we are so caught up in the festivities that the focus and real reason for the celebration is lost. Thus GodÂ’s will is neglected because of our iniquity.

God through his prophet Amos had warned Israel about this when he said, “You drink wine by the bowlful and use the first lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.” Amos 6:6 (NIV) In other words, a major matter was neglected whilst focus was placed on matters of less importance and matters that satisfied their own fleshly desires.

It is wise, therefore, to obey the words of Jesus when He said, “But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well”. Matt 6:33

Thus, let us reflect during this celebration on the reason and purpose of the Christ Child.  Let us not focus only on the ‘Mas’ (the material festivities) of Christmas.

Prayer:
O Heavenly Father, You have sent your son to reconcile us back to You. May we never lose this focus. May Your kingdom and Your righteousness be the focus of our lives.  Amen.
