Exodus 34:21

Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest.   Exodus 34:21

“Drop thy still dews of quietness,Till all our strivings cease;Take from our souls the strain and stress,And let our ordered lives confessThe beauty of thy Peace.”

During creation God worked six days and rested on the seventh day.  It was therefore mandated that man should follow the great example set by our Lord.

The disciples of Jesus, while walking through the cornfields on the Sabbath day; being hungry they plucked the corn.  This caused criticism by the Pharisees.  Jesus in His reply to the Pharisees stated that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27).

May the Lord teach us to understand his will and follow his precepts.  So may we be able to follow his commands in the old dispensation, yet understand their significance in the new dispensation of grace, where we learn the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.  May we grow in wisdom, recognizing the offer of the grace brought by Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

Prayer:
Dear God and Father, we pray that you would grant us the vision to experience from the son’s perspective that we would see the law of God from the old dispensation in light of the grace of Jesus Christ in the new dispensation ushered in by his coming to earth. Grant us loving and understanding hearts to experience the will of the Father.  Amen.
