KEEP ON WALKING

Have you ever set out to run from point A to point B and somewhere in between your feet just get so tired that you want to stop. Or for those who take their early morning walks, you start off at a brisk pace and you have your destination in mind even though it may not be in view. But somewhere in the process either because of a cramp or just being down right dead tired you feel like if you want to stop. IÂ’ve been there and IÂ’m sure you have to. ItÂ’s at that point that I have to tell myself just two words KEEP ON WALKING.

One very famous alcohol beverage has used such words for its campaign slogan. Sure youÂ’ve heard of Johnny Walker. In some ways what Johnny Walker is saying to its current and potential customers is that no matter how tough things may be once you have a shot of this whisky it will re-energize you to the point where in spite of how you may feel, you will still KEEP ON WALKING. And to make their point, the picture on the box is that of Johnny with his walking stick and hat obviously portraying the KEEP ON WALKING posture. How ironic that if you consume too much you may in fact KEEP ON WALKING but not in a straight line for too long.

If a bottled spirit could be sending such a strong message then I also believe that the Holy Spirit is sending that message to those who are in the Christian race. Some of us may be chipping, some of us may be going at flat footed steady jogging pace, others may have started off strong but the pace is getting slower and you’ve gone from running to slow jog. God knows that there are times in this race when the pace may seem slow and the pulse weak. Yet even if this is where today finds you, the Holy Spirit is gently whispering in your ears and mine KEEP ON WALKING. The Christian race is no less of a race because you’re now WALKING instead of running. It is still a race and will remain as such till we all make it to the finish line. And for that to happen let’s be determined to push past the temptation to stop altogether and disengage from the race; to check the ‘rising doubt’ about God’s faithfulness that may be surfacing in us and to just KEEP ON WALKING.

Joshua and Israel kept ON WALKING around Jericho and IÂ’m sure that somewhere some wanted to stop. But they conquered what seemed like an impossible feat because they were told by Joshua KEEP ON WALKING. Jesus on his way to Jerusalem knew what was waiting for him there but was strengthened by God, to KEEP ON WALKING and that he did all the way to CalvaryÂ’s cross.

So today I want to encourage you as I do to myself, let this day be a day in which we all declare even in the face of any obstacle IÂ’m going to KEEP ON WALKING. When we are cast down and discouraged and maybe even depressed, just say to yourself, God is good and life is worth living so IÂ’m going to KEEP ON WALKING.

Till next Friday, GodÂ’s willing, just KEEP ON WALKING.
