WEAR IT WELL!

After being on television since 2003, and after 10 years, the show What Not to WEAR aired its final episode this past August. The show which was aired on TLC was centered on someone whose wardrobe needed a radical makeover. Part of the process included the hosts going through that personÂ’s clothing and trying to convince them that what they were now WEARING was just not suitable. In the end, the goal was to let the person understand that there needs to be a total change of mind in terms of what type of clothing would be considered just right. One of the messages of the show was to force persons to see that the change in wardrobe was tied to changing how they see themselves too. When that new revelation has hit home, by the end of the show, thereÂ’s an unveiling of a new person WEARING new clothes and with a brand new attitude. IsnÂ’t it amazing how what we WEAR or choose not to WEAR can say so much about us?

For good or ill, what we WEAR draws attention to areas of our physical bodies. A guy who is chiseled all over and is competing for Mr. Universe fitness show may walk around in tight fitting vests to show off his strong forearms and bulging chest. A lady who thinks that her figure matches the traditional coke bottle shape will WEAR clothing to make her curves more noticeable. Just as we would WEAR certain clothing to highlight what we consider to be the positive parts of our physical bodies, so too we WEAR certain garments to hide or cover areas of our bodies that we are not too proud of. Whether we are trying to hide or showcase our bodies, when all is said and done, we go out our way to ensure that whatever weÂ’re WEARING we WEAR IT WELL so that we achieve our aim. So much is at stake and after all our self-image is all a part of what we choose to WEAR or not WEAR.

Now if we pay so much attention to what we WEAR on our physical bodies, shouldn’t we pay even more attention to what we WEAR spiritually too? Sure you’ve heard the saying, “the clothes make the man.” What is true physically is also applicable spiritually. A person who has been born again and has received the free gift of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ must have a radical wardrobe change. The old clothing which were associated with the old way of life has to go. In its place must be some new clothes which reflect the new person he/she has become. Now even though the new garments are for our spiritual bodies, the spiritual change in attire is reflected physically. There’s no denying that the invisible garments become visible through the daily choices we make which people see. Believers, having received the garment of salvation, must now WEAR IT WELL. We must remember that “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” (Col. 3: 12) Are these in our spiritual wardrobes? Elsewhere we are reminded of what it means to WEAR this new garment which reflects our new position in Christ. Eph. 4: 22 – 24 says, “Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

If today you profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, then as a believer the evidence of that confession is reflected in the new clothes you now wear. The garment of salvation is free but it is not cheap! Christ paid for it with his own life! And if by GodÂ’s grace, through faith, you have received this new spiritual garment, our FF today urges you donÂ’t just WEAR IT but make sure to WEAR IT WELL! When you do, others will desire to WEAR IT too!
