THE EASY LIFE!

I don't about you but I'm always fascinated by stickers on vehicles. Some make you laugh. Others may cause you to raise your eyebrow in disbelief that somebody could actually put such a message on a car. And then there are those that cause you to think deeply and may stir your mind to reflect on an issue in life. For sure, bumper stickers are teaching tools. A few days ago, a green Jeep pulled out in front of me and on the back of it was a sticker asking this, "where the hell is EASY street?" Immediately I thought about the Staples commercial in which the company is sending the message that they know how to make your LIFE at the office EASY. All you need is an EASY button to press. And with one press of that EASY button, guess what, Staples will be right there to make things EASY. I'm not in a position to say whether or not shopping at Staples can make LIFE EASY. But today I invite us to realize that it is possible to experience THE EASY LIFE. Our FF for today is THE EASY LIFE!

Have you ever heard that the good things in LIFE don’t come EASY? Guess there’s much truth in that. Many students would love to get all good grades. Yet these same students often wish that the good grades would come without having to study hard. But that’s not the case. Staying in the top of your class is not so EASY. Similarly there are many couples who wish that relationships generally would always be EASY. But we quickly wake up and realize that when we said “I will” at the marriage altar that was the EASY part. That was just the beginning. Oh how we wish that from there on it would be nothing but THE EASY LIFE! But staying committed and choosing to continue to love in spite of is not so EASY at all times.

Yet we all desire to have THE EASY LIFE. Little wonder that parents do all in their power to provide for their children. At the same time, we plan for retirement and make sure to put aside something for the rainy day. We may even dream of THE EASY LIFE with that vacation of a lifetime. For some THE EASY LIFE is having what you want and whenever you want it simply because you can have it. And yes there are those for whom THE EASY LIFE is, on one extreme having servants to wait upon you hand and foot. While on the other hand there are those for whom THE EASY LIFE may mean just having a pair of shoes to wear, having a warm meal or maybe just having a dry place to sleep at night.

But THE EASY LIFE as we have it or may want it to be can be taken from us in the twinkling of an eye and without warning! And if all we have to hold on to is our version of THE EASY LIFE then when that carpet is pulled from beneath our feet we may think that LIFE itself is not worth it anymore. But today I’m thankful that God in Christ offers THE EASY LIFE insurance policy that is eternally guaranteed. It looks very different from what the world may expect. Here’s what the guarantor (Jesus) has assured us, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is EASY to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matt. 11: 28 – 30)

So if today youÂ’re still looking for THE EASY LIFE or you may even think to yourself that youÂ’ve already found it, let me ask which edition of THE EASY LIFE do you have? If your version of THE EASY LIFE is not grounded in Christ, then re-examine just how EASY you think you really are living. Still wondering where is the street that leads to THE EASY LIFE? One is broad and winding and the other is straight and narrow. Many people find the first. But few choose to take the second because from a distance it looks so difficult. But I guarantee you that THE EASY LIFE that is for real is found on that second path. There are countless others who like me can testify that THE EASY LIFE is the Christian LIFE. So if youÂ’re tired of living your LIFE your way, Christ invites you today to release yourself of LIFEÂ’s burdens and come to Him. It is then that you will experience for yourself THE EASY LIFE!
