CAN'T STOP NOW!

With the start of another school year thereÂ’s a burst of energy and excitement as students and teachers head back into the classroom. ItÂ’s amazing to see children getting up on their own and taking more responsibility like preparing their own breakfast and getting dressed on their own. They want to get to school early. But letÂ’s fast forward. What do you think will happen around March next year? Will there still be that kind of energy? Or will parents be banging down doors 20 minutes after the alarm has gone off trying to get the same child up and out of bed? Where did all of the excitement go? Did it just evaporate with every passing day? The truth is that we all do get excited at the start of the journey. Somewhere along the way, though, we get to the place of wanting to quit. If thatÂ’s you then todayÂ’s FF serves as a timely reminder. It is CANÂ’T STOP NOW!

Somehow everybody possesses an abundance of energy at the start of any journey. We see it in the long distance runners as they get the race started. What of the young couple can hardly get enough of each other in the early days of marriage? And of course, the new believer in Christ is zealous for the Lord and wants to see the whole world saved immediately. But if weÂ’re not careful that same burst of energy and excitement that we see displayed at the beginning of the journey can be lost if it is not replenished. If not then it is only a matter of time before we reach a place where we feel like if we want to STOP. But if we are to not STOP then a decision has to be made from the very beginning that come what may, we will not STOP.

But sometimes that is easier said than done. When we have no one to encourage us along the way, then it is easy to just STOP. When it seems as though in spite of our best efforts the results donÂ’t seem to correspond to all of the hard work youÂ’ve put in, then itÂ’s hard to tell yourself CANÂ’T STOP NOW. And then you canÂ’t help but notice that there seem to be others who seem to exert less effort than you and seem to accomplish more. So then we ask ourselves why bother continuing, wonÂ’t it be easier to just STOP NOW? But today I want to encourage you as I encourage myself, NOW is not the time to STOP. Why? First you may not be aware, but youÂ’ve covered too much ground to throw in the towel NOW. Second, there are others who are following in your footsteps and keeping up with your stride. So consider that if you STOP NOW, then they too may also decide to follow your example and also STOP. Third, slow down if you have to but come what may choose not to STOP. You can always pick back up the speed but starting back again after youÂ’ve STOPPED is sometimes more difficult than even the first time you started. Fourth, we all need GodÂ’s strength, grace and power to keep going especially when we feel as though weÂ’re at the point of wanting to STOP.

For all of us, life is a journey. If we make heaven our ultimate destination, then in spite of how things may appear to be going on this leg of the faith journey, tell yourself that you CAN’T STOP NOW! After, all there’s too much at stake. There’s too much to lose and on the other hand, there’s everything to gain – eternal life itself! And so let’s all encourage each other along the way and pass this message on to your other faith journeyers. Tell them that we’ve come too far and so we just CAN’T STOP NOW! Keep remembering what’s waiting for us at the end of the journey. So we CAN’T STOP NOW!
