OUGHT TO!

We’ve heard it said many times that “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” At the start of each day there are so many things that we intend to do. And yet each of us come to the end of a day only to realize that sometimes much of what we intended to do somehow did not get done. Whether we have a thorough to-do list at the start of a day, a mental note of what they intend to get done or we simply roll along through the day, it can be very frustrating when we realize that what we OUGHT TO get done, for some reason doesn’t. And when that happens, who’s to blame? Maybe the traffic; or that unexpected telephone call that went longer than expected; or having to sit in the waiting room of the doctor’s longer than usual. What if the real blame is just us? What if we are lacking in the drive that is needed to make our OUGHT TO become a will do or better yet, done. With that in mind our FF for today is OUGHT TO!

I wondered to myself if a to-do list is the same as an OUGHT TO list? It depends! A to-do can be seen as things that are more likely to get done. But OUGHT TO doesnÂ’t have the same ring of commitment associated with it. OUGHT TO seem to be saying that even though we know that something is important and that it should be done, there is a high possibility that it may not get done. OUGHT TO doesnÂ’t have a sense of urgency or priority. And the irony in life is that too often those things that we OUGHT TO do, because they are essential, are the exact ones that are left undone or unattended. Maybe then we should begin to view the OUGHT TO things with new eyes. Could it be then that we should begin to see that our OUGHT TO list is really a must-do and so in many ways becomes our main concern.

With that new perspective, then we will begin to see things around us change for the better. So instead of just saying that we OUGHT TO pray more, we do just that and pray more earnestly. Spouses will no longer say that they OUGHT TO love and care for each other more but instead they will do so and who knows that by so doing they will divorce-proof their marriage. Those who have neglected caring for their bodies will not just say that they OUGHT TO live healthier but will start to make the necessary changes and see their health improve. Family members will realize that they OUGHT TO be more intentional about staying connected to each other and donÂ’t just call when thereÂ’s a crisis or a need. ThereÂ’s so much in life that we OUGHT TO give attention to. The truth is when we neglect to do what we OUGHT TO, we are the ones who are most hurt and affected.

So today ask ourselves, what are some of the things that we OUGHT TO do? If we are convicted that there is something that OUGHT TO do, or something that we OUGHT TO say, or someplace where we OUGHT TO go or someone whom we OUGHT TO see, then decide today that whatever is OUGHT TO will be given attention to. And whatever our OUGHT TO is letÂ’s also understand that when we neglect our OUGHT TO there is a bitter taste thatÂ’s left in our mouths. ItÂ’s called regret! So might we do all we can today, by GodÂ’s strength and grace to do, say, think, act and live as we OUGHT TO. Too much is at stake when ignore our OUGHT TO!
