END WELL!

Getting to the END of something always brings with it a deep sense of accomplishment and/or relief. ItÂ’s the feeling that overshadows us when we get to a hard and trying day. ItÂ’s what the student feels coming to the END of semester or term. ItÂ’s the feeling the researcher embraces when the dissertation is finally submitted. ItÂ’s what the pregnant woman feels when she reaches to the END of pregnancy. ItÂ’s as though you can finally exhale. But if thereÂ’s one time that sense of reaching to the END is most magnified it is coming to the END of another year. The mix of emotions is often times inexplicable. Joy mingled with sadness. Failure mixed with success. There are moments who wish you could forget and others you always want to remember. So as we come to the final installment of 2012 FF, our thought for this week is to encourage all of us to END WELL!

ThereÂ’s nothing like a good ENDING to a movie or a novel. One that ENDS with a cliff hanger lets you know for sure that thereÂ’s another part to this drama that is yet to be told. The medals that were won at this yearÂ’s summer Olympics were not given out on where the athlete started the race but how the race ENDED. Countless happy couples were given in marriage this year with the promise made to live together till death. At the same time the same amount or more stood before a judge to END their unhappy marriages. Pretty sure that was the END they imagined. We know that everything that has a beginning also has an ENDING. And although the beginning may be exciting, most often it is the ENDING that leaves that lingering taste. So however the year would have started 12 months ago in January and regardless of the winding course that you may have taken between then and now, say to yourself that it will END WELL!

Even though weÂ’re being challenged today to END WELL in 2012, thereÂ’s another journey where how you END is even more important. In three days time on December 31, this year will END. The USA may or may not go off its fiscal cliff! War will still be fought in the Middle East! Syrians will still be battling for democracy! Children will still be children! Parents will continue being parents! Yes, life will continue! Yet we cannot forget that one day our own lives too will END. And that, dear friends, is the most important of all journeys that we need to ensure ENDS WELL.

But a life that ENDS WELL is a life is lived WELL in the power of the Holy Spirit! A life that ENDS WELL is one that is lived WELL under the Lordship of Jesus Christ! A life that ENDS WELL is a life that knows WELL the joy of words penned by one hymn writer, “Through the love of God our Saviour; all will be WELL.” We can do what’s in our power to ensure that 2012 ENDS WELL. Might this be the time too when more importantly we see to it that our lives are lived in such a way that when we get to the END of our life’s journey, it can also be said that we ENDED WELL. Then we will hear the words of comfort from our Lord Jesus Christ, “WELL done, my good and faithful servant.” (Matt. 25:21). So today it’s not too late to decide to END WELL!
