TIMING IS EVERYTHING!
To begin with, my family and I extend to you and yours a very blessed and joyous Christmas. Imagine if you will,the young man whoÂ’s planning to propose to his longtime girlfriend to ask her to marry him. HeÂ’s already picked out the ring and he knows that itÂ’s perfect. But then he begins to wonder when would be the right TIME to pop the question to her. Or letÂ’s imagine the young mother of 3 who wants to go back to school to pursue a graduate degree. ItÂ’s been years since she completed that first degree and as the job market has become more competitive she feels the urge to make herself more marketable and to reposition herself to climb the corporate ladder. But with a husband, an already demanding job and growing children she wonders to herself when is the right TIME to go back to school. With these scenarios in mind our FF for today reminds us that TIMING IS EVERYTHING!
There are some very good ideas that may not see the light of day simply because they were tabled at the wrong TIME. Can you imagine Barack Obama being elected President of United States 40 years ago? Unthinkable! Wrong TIME! Even the launch of space craft has to be well TIMED so that as it moves to outer space it encounters no problems. No right thinking bank loanÂ’s officer would dare give a 25 year mortgage to a 60 year old person. Wrong TIME! And we all know just how excited we can feel when we get things done at the right TIME. The photographer who catches the sunÂ’s rays at the right time to give him that perfect shot is proud of himself. The high school star athlete who performs at his best when the college recruiting agent is watching knows very well that TIMING IS EVERYTHING! Politicians especially know that TIMING IS EVERYTHING and so lawmakers in the USA will try their best now to pass gun control laws in light of recent mass shootings.
And if we know the importance of having the right TIMING, how much more does God. The Sovereign God who is eternal and who is not limited by TIME knows that when it comes to the affairs of human beings that TIMING IS EVERYTHING. For years the prophets of old had foretold about the coming of the Messiah. And many would have thought that God’s TIMING was way off. But Christmas teaches us that God’s TIMING is not ours. And so “when the right TIME came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.” (Gal. 4: 4). One of the many messages of this Christmas season then is that God is well aware that TIMING IS EVERYTHING. The ancient Mayans too were fascinated with TIME. So fascinated that they even predicted when TIME will end. If we follow what they have said then the world as we know it should come to an end today. But the Bible tells us that all of TIME – past, present and future – is in God’s hands.
God is well aware that TIMING IS EVERYTHING and so not only the events of this world are ordered by God, but every detail of our lives too is under God’s divine control. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let’s not fail to recognize this wonder – God becoming flesh at the right TIME. Because TIMING IS EVERYTHING might we say with the hymn writer, “My TIMES are in thy hands; My God I leave them there.”
