Be Faithful!

You must therefore be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left. Deuteronomy 5:32

Moses is instructing the Children of Israel prior to their crossing the Jordan into the promised land. He will not lead them there, so he takes the time to prepare them for the journey and the land prior to his departure. His exhortation to them is for them to be steadfast in their observance of the commandments. They were not to turn away or even glance. The commandments provided for them all they needed to do in order to live lives pleasing to God. Moses commands the people to ‘be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left.’ The phrase is expressive of a strict and close attention to the word of God, without deviating from it in the least; for every sin, which is a transgression of some command of God or another, is a moving away from the path commanded by God. Your ears will hear a word behind you, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21. God will guide us along the path, once we trust in God.

In MosesÂ’ words we find therefore a challenge to love and trust God, the source of all goodness. God will never change and can be depended on in the present as well as in the future. God is good and faithful, and expects us to respond to this goodness and faithfulness by being responsible. IsraelÂ’s future would be dependent on the faithfulness of each generation, and this shows the importance of the family unit in GodÂ’s plan. The godly family is God's appointed institution in which instruction in godliness takes place. Therein we learn from a tender age the importance of serving God. It is also there that faithfulness is learnt. The family is the teaching ground of our faith. Those who teach will find that their children and grand-children continue in the church. Those who do not teach will see their children move away from church and from God. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22: 6. Faithfulness has its benefits.

Have you been walking in the Godly pathway? Have you been teaching your children the importance of the path you have chosen? Do they know how important this is to you and how fulfilling it can be for them? We have to ensure that we follow the path of God while directing those around us, especially our loved ones, to that path. Do not turn away for anything, but in faith, prove the power of God in your life and in the lives of those around you. Your faithfulness will lead to fruitfulness.

Till next Tuesday, be blessed!
