GOD DID IT!

Sometimes we attempt some things and in the end the results were even better than expected. When that happens we feel a sense of pride and can rightfully boast that what we accomplished was all because of our hard work. Our efforts paid off big time. We can stand up and take a bow and excitedly declare, “Yea, we DID IT!” But there are some other things that even though we applied ourselves and gave IT our best shot, there was still a part of us that felt uncertain and not that self-confident. And so while we anxiously waited for the end results, we expected failure, not success, defeat and not victory. And then, surprise! The opposite of what we were anticipating happened. After the initial shock we are besides ourselves when realize that in spite of the shortcomings of our best efforts, we still tasted success. We cannot help then but acknowledge this truth that GOD DID IT! That’s today’s FF – GOD DID IT!

There’s something sweet about being able to boast or brag about what we consider to be worthwhile accomplishments. Parents want to be able to brag about what their children are doing. They show off the trophies and certificates that the children might have earned years ago. The overweight person who has shed quite a bit of the extra pounds will feel like blowing his/her own horn because the hard work and strict diet are paying off. The track and field athlete who placed third last season and has now won the gold medal will want everybody to know what he/she has done. The truth is we all have our ‘trophy’ moments when we hold our heads up high and say to whoever will listen, “Look at me! See what I’ve done!” But if all we can do is say what we DID in our own human wisdom and might then that’s regrettable. Something is missing.

For you see there are some occasions in life that are unbelievably difficult or just altogether impossible for us to handle. Left up to ourselves we already know the outcome. But then GOD intervenes and everything changes much to our surprise and others too. And so we have just this one simple and direct explanation, “GOD DID IT!” Remember that new position that opened up which was offered to you even though others were more qualified? GOD DID IT! How to explain that speedy and smooth recovery after that difficult surgery? GOD DID IT! What to make of that prestigious university you got accepted into even though you thought your application didn’t match up to other applicants? GOD DID IT! How to account for the restoring of strained relationships in your marriage, home and family? GOD DID IT! You get the picture!

So if we really want to boast, let’s make the biggest boast by declaring that GOD DID IT! Be counted among those who will readily say, “My soul will boast in the LORD.” (Ps. 34:2) So just look around you….all that you have, all that you’ve accomplished…give credit where it is due – GOD. So the next time somebody pays you a compliment, politely say, “Thank you.” But be quick to add this boast, “GOD DID IT!”
