GOD'S PRECISE PROVISION!
For as long as I can remember I have never seen my mother follow a recipe or use PRECISE measurements when cooking. Yet whatever is being cooked or baked comes out just right. Cooking by estimation remains her way of doing things. And yet even though it seems as though there’s no PRECISE quantities, the amount of the missing ingredient when added is exactly the right amount and at the right time. There are so many Caribbean women and men who like my mother cook a ‘wikked pot’ without following the PRECISE measurements of recipes. Yet still what we see as a guesstimate ends up being PRECISELY what is needed. Today I invite us then to focus on GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION. That’s our FF for today – GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION!
I donÂ’t think that anybody reading this today has any doubt whatsoever that GOD PROVIDES. We can all think of moments in our lives when our need seemed to be beyond what we ever thought possible. We have all at some point in our lives reached a place of utter destitution. And it was not necessarily material things that we were in need of. Sometimes our greatest need might have been emotional, physical or even spiritual. But whatever it is we know how it feels to be at that place where it was as though we were paddling up a creek without an oar. And it is at such moments that we find ourselves admitting that GOD and only GOD could bring us out.
And here is where GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION is made known to us. GOD’S PRECISION leaves us dumbfounded because there’s no guess work involved. I’ve come to realize that GOD is PRECISE two ways. First, there’s a PRECISE PROVISION where GOD meets the exact need whatever it may be. Second, there’s GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION in terms of the PRECISE timing of GOD’S PROVISION. It’s the kind of perfect timing that is expressed in the Greek word ‘kairos’. It’s what the saints of old have testified about. They remind us of the GOD who’s never early or never late, but who’s always right on time! GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION was seen when Elijah was sent by God to a widow in Zarephath. She and her son were about to witness firsthand the awesome miracle of GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION in their lives. And so even though there was a drought in the land, GOD gave her all the food she needed and at PRECISELY the right time as she was about to cook her last meal (1 Kings 17: 8ff)
Lest we forget, that same GOD is still at work in today’s world. Even when the financial experts try to convince us that the years ahead will be challenging for the world’s economies in light of this week’s elections in America where the status quo has remained unchanged, let’s remind ourselves of GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION. GOD knows our needs and there’s no guesstimate when it comes to GOD. GOD’S PRECISE PROVISION will be nothing less – PRECISELY what we need and PRECISELY when we need it.
