LIVE AND LEARN!

Years ago one of my colleagues gave some wise counsel that I’ve never forgotten. He said every experience in life should teach you two lessons – either what to do or not to do. How true! And with each day that we LIVE each experience that we have still teaches us both of those lessons. But the truth is that sometimes we don’t always LEARN from experiences. It’s bad enough not to LEARN but other people’s experiences. But it’s even worse when we fail to LEARN from our own experiences. And so as we begin this month of November, the FF for today asks us to gain wisdom each day as we LIVE AND LEARN.

Life has many lessons to teach us. And some of lifeÂ’s most valuable lessons are not necessarily taught in the classroom of the best schools or universities. To LIVE AND LEARN in this instance is not so much about receiving formal education. IÂ’m sure we know some folks who are educated and yet they behave in such a way that you cannot help but wonder to yourself what have they LEARNT about actually living. To LIVE AND LEARN is in essence to LEARN from LIVING.

So we LIVE AND LEARN from the decisions we make. We also LIVE AND LEARN not only by what we do but also by the actions of others and how they impact upon us. And we LIVE AND LEARN from the events of life that we have absolutely no control over. Ask those whose lives have been impacted over the past week or more by Hurricane Sandy. I’m sure there can after all that they’ve been through there are some lessons that they’ve LEARNT. We LIVE AND LEARN through the all of life – the good and the bad! We LEARN how to rebuild after destruction. We LEARN how to be forgiving when we’ve been hurt. We LEARN how to love unconditionally when we have to LIVE with those we find difficult to love. We LEARN how to enjoy life when we LIVE long enough to see just how quickly time flies.

And so today, letÂ’s all continue to LEARN while we still yet LIVE. LEARN from the mistakes of others and ourselves. LEARN from our triumphs and pitfalls. LEARN from those who have gone before us. And at the same time understand that by the way we now LIVE, others will, in the future, also look at the footprints weÂ’ve left in the sands of time and they too will LEARN from us as they LIVE. So by GodÂ’s grace letÂ’s LIVE AND LEARN so that we can also LEARN how to LIVE.
