STAY IN THE SHADE!

There are days in the Caribbean where the sunÂ’s heat is practically unbearable. But I guess those are the type of days that tourists came here to enjoy. They lie out in the sun and soak up all the sunÂ’s rays working to get that perfect tan. But while tourists literally bathe in the sun, many of us who live here would think twice before lying out in the hot sun all day. In fact, when the days are that hot, we tend to move as quickly as possible to get out of the sun. So casual conversations are held in the SHADE! Drivers seek out any spot with a SHADE to keep their cars cool. Some persons even use their umbrellas to protect them from the sun. ItÂ’s like the unwritten rule is when the sun is that hot do anything to catch a SHADE. Our FF for today is STAY IN THE SHADE!

Though it is fun and a delight to play in the sun, over exposure to the sun’s rays can be deadly. It can lead to dehydration and even of skin cancer. So people are often being encouraged to cover up. As a result sun screen and sun block lotions are big business. But apart from all the latest lotions on the market one sure way of being protected is to look for some SHADE. When you think about it, everything and everyone has a SHADE. It could be a building, a tree or a human body itself. Once there is a ‘go-between’ that blocks the light of the sun a SHADE is the end result. So we don’t have to do anything extra to create SHADE or even have to look very far to find it. SHADES are everywhere. So the greater challenge is not trying to find SHADE but rather to STAY IN THE SHADE.

But if SHADES are that common what then makes them also unique? To me one great thing about a SHADE is its mobility. As the position of the sun shifts, the SHADE moves too. And so if we want to STAY IN THE SHADE then we must be willing to shift when it is necessary to do so. Staying in the same position could mean missing out on the protection that the SHADE offers. Now I want us to apply that to how our lives. We are constantly in motion. Life really doesnÂ’t stay in one position. Today we are dealing with this issue. Tomorrow it is that. Next week brings a whole different matter for us to grapple with and so will next month or next year. But even as life moves up and down and to and fro there is a place that we can go to where we will be protected from the searing heat that comes with living. Where do we find that SHADE that will shelter us from lifeÂ’s blazing heat? Where can we turn to find refuge when things around us get too intense and we desire to STAY IN THE SHADE?

Here’s the answer: Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1) Might we find comfort in this single thought – God will not only provide a SHADE but God will be the SHADE that protects us from the things in life that can potentially ruin us. So to STAY IN THE SHADE is an invitation to abide, dwell and remain in that place where God’s divine protection is readily available to us. The heat of life can drain us but there’s a place where we are always guaranteed that we will find SHADE. And the best part is that as life moves, so too does this SHADE. So with the SHADE that comes from being where God is, the message to us today is to STAY IN THE SHADE!
