God is Still Good

Psalm 14: 3 They have all gone astray, they are all alike perverse; there is no one who does good, no, not one.
This is a serious indictment on any people. The Psalmist begins with the statement, ‘Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God”. As God seemingly searches the world of fools then to find even one righteous, the futility of the search is brought out in our text. There are none, as everyone has begun following their own beliefs. If God is absent then, it follows that there is no good in the world. If God is good, then the absence of God is indeed the absence of goodness. Not that God is absent in that God is everywhere, but our failure to acknowledge God will result in our failure to see the good of the situations around us.
We live in a world which constantly highlights failures and browse over successes. Look at what makes headlines in the media of the twenty-first century. This is a world which lambasts our mistakes while grudgingly acknowledging our good deeds. A world in which it is much easier to criticize than to compliment. As a result we have become harsh in our criticism of each other even when we intend it for the good of the other. How often for example, have we felt hounded by someone at the work place, at home, at school, at church, or in our community, only to realize at a later date that this person really cared and wanted us to succeed. When our hearts become negative, even our best actions will be perceived in a negative light.

I implore us today therefore, to find our way back to God’s way by not only doing good, [that is easy enough to do] but by being and by speaking good. Make a special effort this day and beyond to see and ‘big up’ the good in those around us. Give a word of compliment, kindness or praise today. Let others know you truly value them. It is by discovering goodness in others that God becomes visible in those around us and this world that can seem so spiritually dark, will begin to glow with a brightness you thought was long forgotten. Remember now, God is all around us but not readily visible to all of us. God is good, all the time; and all the time, God is good.

Till next Tuesday, be blessed!
