JUST ENOUGH!

“But he got more than me!” “That’s not fair you gave her too much!” If you grew up in a home with other children sure you identify with these complaints. It’s as if no matter how fair a parent or adult tries to be when it’s time to share, it always seem as if somebody got cheated. There’s always somebody who gripes about not getting ENOUGH. That person feels as robbed. But it goes beyond food. Have you ever complained about another sibling not getting ENOUGH lashes as punishment? How quickly we voice our complaints when we don’t feel as if we’ve had ENOUGH. On the contrary, we seldom object or grumble when we have had too much. Today our FF calls us to strike a balance and to realize that in our lives, God always gives us JUST ENOUGH!

Having too much of something can be just as bad as having too little. I once heard a doctor who in administering a general anesthetic explained to the patient the importance of giving JUST ENOUGH of the medicine. He said that as a doctor he had to ensure to give JUST ENOUGH so that she didn’t awaken during surgery, but not too much that she didn’t wake up at all! While excess or abundance can make us puffed up and too proud of ourselves, having a shortage or lack can cause us to see ourselves as less than, worthless causing us to become envious desiring what others have. The words of Jesus are so true. He warns, “Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own." (Luke 12:15) Looking beyond the material possessions, what we really need is not too much or too little of anything. What we should be thankful for then is when God allows us to have not too little or too much but JUST ENOUGH! Of what?

JUST ENOUGH strength to know that we are still totally dependent on God!
JUST ENOUGH pain to realize that it is gift that lets us know something needs restoring!
JUST ENOUGH sorrow so that we know the intimacy of being comforted by God!
JUST ENOUGH joy so that we donÂ’t take life as a happy go lucky, carefree journey!
JUST ENOUGH disappointments so we learn ultimately only God is fully trustworthy!
JUST ENOUGH doubt that our faith is deepened as we continue to walk not by sight!
JUST ENOUGH temptations that we don’t stop praying “Deliver us from evil”!
JUST ENOUGH failures that we desire to walk in victory!
JUST ENOUGH turmoil that we not only pray for peace but also become peace-makers!
JUST ENOUGH of the truth so that we can accept reality and not live a lie!
JUST ENOUGH laughter that we are weighed down by the burdens of life!
JUST ENOUGH sickness to value what it means to be in good health!

Because weÂ’re all unique then JUST ENOUGH is different for each of us. One personÂ’s JUST ENOUGH may be too much or too little for that matter for another person. But we serve a God who specializes in individual attention. God knows what the limit is for each of us and God knows exactly how much is the JUST ENOUGH that you can handle! But today might our prayer be for JUST ENOUGH of GOD and in the process we end up desiring even more so that our JUST ENOUGH is ever expanding! Today though thank God that in our lives He gives us JUST ENOUGH!
