Christ Suffered For Us.

For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was stricken. Isaiah 53: 8
Put another way, this verse says, ‘he was cut off from the land of the living for the transgression of my people, to whom the blow was due.’ The person spoken of in this passage has been referred to as the Suffering Servant. He is none other than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was for our sins and in our place that our Lord suffered. We deserved, and should have gotten the blow, but He took it for us. Romans 3: 23 reminds us ‘for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’.

Those who live in sin, have a love for, and satisfaction with their sinful life. They have their own evil ways which they enjoy without having any regrets. In fact those who are committed to a life of sinfulness, actually enjoy their sinful, Godless lives. Not so with the believer! Our sins deserve the most severe grief and sorrow on our part and the harshest punishment from God. It is sin that separates us from God and as long as the stench and the stain of sin are upon us we are excluded from entering the presence of our God .

Christ became that necessary sacrifice for our atonement, that final sacrifice for our forgiveness and restoration. He saves us from the ruin, the destruction, that we so rightly deserve because of our sins, by taking our sins upon Himself. He took the blow that was meant for us. This my friends, was the only means for our salvation. The thorns on ChristÂ’s head, the nails in His hands and feet, the spear in His side, were our sins. This was GodÂ’s way of offering redemption to us. What we could never accomplish, Christ accomplished for us. 2 Cor. 5: 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Hear also 1 Peter 3: 18 [Doctrinal Text] Christ also suffered for sins once and for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring us to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit. Oh what love the Father has for us His children.

What, dear friend, is your response to this love of God. There are only two possible responses. Firstly, one may chose to ignore this and go on living as if there will be no consequences for our actions. Secondly, one can accept this gift of life by embracing Jesus Christ as the Savior of their lives and enjoy the blessing of forgiven sins, and life everlasting. Which have you chosen? May you make the choice that will take you into the loving presence of our God for all eternity.

Till next Tuesday, be blessed.
