Our God Reigns!

TodayÂ’s word comes to us from Exodus 15: 18 The Lord will reign forever and ever. This is a part of what we have come to describe today as the Song of Moses and Miriam. It was the song they used to celebrate the crossing of the Red Sea. It is believed by some scholars that this is the oldest recorded song in the world. In the song Moses and all the Israelites sing of the events that took place, and of the mighty works of God in delivering His people. Imagine the joy with which they sang, having just being delivered from certain destruction.

Many of us can identify with moments like this in our lives where we praise God unreservedly for a miraculous act done in our favor. In Psalm 145 we have David praising God for the many acts of deliverance on his behalf. The first three verses says ‘I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. 2 Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom’. My friends, there are times when the burdens of life become too much for us to bear. At such times we cannot help but wonder if we are going to last much longer, if we are going to make it through. Let me tell you today, that there is One who is willing to see us through these difficult moments, who is willing to become the burden bearer on our behalf. He is the Lord, and as Moses declares, He will reign forever.

One important aspect of this song is that it not only looks at what the Lord had done, but it declared confidence in what the Lord would do for His people. The present victory was for the Children of Israel, a guarantee of future victories over their enemies, and also a certainty that He who had brought them safely out of Egypt, would bring them safely into the land of their inheritance, the Promised Land. Those who recognize the Lord God as their God, are indeed happy. There is work to do, yes, and there are temptations to grapple with, and yes, there are afflictions to bear, and at our best we are weak physically and spiritually, but as long as we remain in the presence of our Lord, His grace becomes our strength. Regardless of the sorrows we face, it is in Him that we will always find comfort. Indeed, the Lord will reign forever and forever.

Dear saints, let me encourage you today to never lose sight of the Lord our God. He was sufficient for all our yesterdays, He is sufficient for all our today, and He will be more than sufficient for all our tomorrows. The world presents many alternate sources of deliverance and salvation to us, but Psalm 33: 12 reminds us ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance’. More directed is Psalm 146: 5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God’. True and lasting happiness comes from remaining in the presence of our God and knowing that He is all sufficient. In times of sickness and pain he is our Jehovah Rapha, our healer. In this world of sin, shame and multiple standards, He is our Jehovah Tsidkenu, our righteousness. In this time of uprisings, disturbances, storm and stress, He is our Jehovah Shalom, our peace. In this time of failing financial systems, job losses, uncertainties for future provisions, He is our Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Yes friends this morning I invite you to let the Lord be your Jehovah Shammah, the Lord who is always there, always with us. This is possible when we believe, like Moses did, that the Lord will reign forever and forever. May He rule in your heart today and forevermore.

Till next Tuesday, be blessed!
