DISLOCATE TO RELOCATE!

For the month of August, each week our FF will be drawn from some of the early submissions that were done dating back to 2005/2006. The weekly FF was birthed as we were planning for a youth and young adult convention called Take it Back (TIB) which was held in Trinidad in 2006. Each Friday the participants were invited to join together and focus on the approaching event. I felt moved by God to continue the weekly FF and here we are now in 2010. IÂ’ve rewritten some making editorial changes since the FF now is no longer within the context of TIB.

IÂ’m losing track of the number of times IÂ’ve had to pack up and RELOCATE. Over the years being in ministry has meant that our family has had to go through the process of packing up, cleaning up, throwing away what was not needed anymore, giving things away or in some cases just leaving things behind. WeÂ’ve learnt that in order to RELOCATE it is necessary to DISLOCATE. So our FF for today is DISLOCATE TO RELOCATE.

To DISLOCATE means that there's some disruption, a plucking away, a tearing down of some sort. When we DISLOCATE a bone in our bodies, it is painful and uncomfortable. DISLOCATION brings with it its own challenges. And sometimes it's the last thing we want. Nobody readily embraces being DISLOCATED. Yet in order to RELOCATE one must be willing to DISLOCATE.

Back in 2006, God did DISLOCATE and RELOCATE those who shared in TIB. I often wonder how many have stayed in their new locations over the years. Is it possible that some may have fallen back to the old habits and lifestyle that God had DISLOCATED them from? If that has happened my prayer today is that we will pray this simple prayer again: DISLOCATE me Lord and RELOCATE me to where I should be. LetÂ’s pray for God to RELOCATE us to a new place in our personal walk with Him; RELOCATE us to a new desire for Him; RELOCATE us to a new level of faith; RELOCATE us to new expressions of worship; RELOCATE us to seeing the truths in His word more clearly. Lord, DISLOCATE us and RELOCATE us!

RELOCATION brings a sense of joy and anticipation of being in a new place. But with it there is also the accompanying disruption, restlessness and forecast of unexpected challenges. Even though we may genuinely desire to RELOCATE with God there is always the apprehension of what comes with the RELOCATION and the preceding DISLOCATION. But to go to a new place, one must be willing to first leave the current place. One must then be prepared to first DISLOCATE in order to RELOCATE.

Four years ago when our family was RELOCATING from Barbados to St. Thomas, a flight that was to have lasted for 5 hours took over 48 hours on my favorite Caribbean airline. Here's a lesson I learned: even in the process of RELOCATING always expect to encounter the unforeseen challenges of DISLOCATION. As God calls us to RELOCATE, it is the intention of the enemy to keep you from being RELOCATED and so will cause you to find any good reason to not be DISLOCATED. Yet our greatest challenge is not the enemy without but rather the enemy within. The fear of the unknown and entering unchartered waters that comes with RELOCATION can cripple us so that we prefer not to be DISLOCATED. God is always RELOCATING and DISLOCATING because God is forever doing new things. Today then DISLOCATE TO RELOCATE. The best is yet to come.
