JUST ONE LOOK

There was an era not too long ago when if you were misbehaving all your parents had to do was to give you JUST ONE LOOK. That ONE LOOK said it all. It said donÂ’t let me come over there or else. You knew that something definite was coming down the pipeline if you didnÂ’t immediately repent. May God help you if you got a second LOOK. If that happened, something more was waiting for you by the time you got home. It could also be immediate when your mom made a special delivery to your anatomy, the effects of which left you tingling either for few hours or days depending on the heaviness of the delivery. Memories! Our FF for today is JUST ONE LOOK.

ItÂ’s amazing all that happen with JUST ONE LOOK. Somehow the course of oneÂ’s life can change for better or worse all because of JUST ONE LOOK. Adam had JUST ONE LOOK at Eve and knew immediately that God made her just for him. LotÂ’s wife turned into a pillar of salt due to her being disobedient and taking JUST ONE LOOK back at Sodom. The Israelites who took JUST ONE LOOK at the bronze statue which Moses lifted up in the wilderness lived. Jesus had JUST ONE LOOK at Peter and Peter remembered the words that Jesus had spoken to him indicating that he Peter would have denied Jesus three times.

But what happens because of that ONE LOOK depends on the motive behind it. LetÂ’s consider that JUST ONE LOOK of lust can get someone whoÂ’s married on a path of adultery. JUST ONE LOOK of attraction can lead a single person to finally find that one whom God has chosen for you. JUST ONE LOOK at self in the mirror can lead someone to finally do something about their reflection. ONE LOOK at where your life is and where it should be can be a wake-up call. JUST ONE honest LOOK at the people around you may allow you to see whoÂ’s like a leech sucking the life out of you or who adds.

But hereÂ’s a question I invite all of us to reflect on: if Jesus were to take JUST ONE LOOK at us, what sort of LOOK will it be? Will it be a LOOK which reveals the hypocrisy in our lives; is it a LOOK that says to us how much weÂ’re love by God; is it a LOOK of judgment; is it a LOOK of forgiveness and affirmation. I admit that there are times when IÂ’d rather not see ChristÂ’s LOOK. I may not know what to read from it. And yet I know that GodÂ’s eyes are always open looking at us. We foolishly believe that we can hide from that LOOK. But the same way our parents LOOK at us and by that ONE LOOK they communicate either their approval or disapproval with our behavior, so too God today is looking at you and me.

Open our eyes and see Christ looking at us. As he LOOKS at us may we also LOOK at our lives – the things we do, the words we say, the way we live. May we see in that ONE LOOK God’s love. And if our lives are not in alignment with God may that ONE LOOK of love lead us to repentance. Our lives can go in a whole new direction if we would but recognize that Jesus today takes JUST ONE LOOK at us.
