THE FIRST ALARM!

Has this ever happened to you? You set the ALARM to get up at a certain time. It sounds off. But instead of getting up when it alarms, you turn it off and then tell yourself youÂ’ll soon get up. You just need 5 more minutes. If your ALARM has a snooze button thatÂ’s on then in a minute or two the ALARM will sound again. But you can kill the snooze button. 5 minutes turn into 30 or even 60. Then you find yourself scampering to make up for lost time because you did not move at THE FIRST ALARM. ThatÂ’s our FF for today THE FIRST ALARM.

ALARMS are to be taken seriously. They jolt us. They keep us alert. ALARMS are necessary. Can you imagine a bank without an ALARM system? In many areas where tsunamis have hit previously, theyÂ’ve set up ALARMS. People can run to higher ground when it sounds. How many more lives would be lost if it was not for fire ALARMS? When an emergency exit door is pushed it sounds an ALARM. I canÂ’t for one moment imagine what our lives would be like without some sort of ALARM.

ALARM gets our attention. It says get going! Do something! Respond immediately! There are consequences that happen in our lives when we ignore ALARMS. A person who pays no attention to a fire ALARM is putting his life in danger. A robber who ignores an ALARM and still proceeds will get caught. One who doesnÂ’t listen to his bodyÂ’s ALARM system is putting his health at risk. The sound of an ALARM means to run - run to where itÂ’s safe; run away from the danger; be moving or else you may lose your life. Only a fool would ignore THE FIRST ALARM.

And yet how do we respond when God sounds off that FIRST ALARM in our lives - like the accident that almost took your life; the diagnosis that was hard to believe but was caught early; the relationship you knew was ‘unequally yoked’ that God was saying no to but you still went ahead only to regret; the FIRST conviction of the Spirit that said this behavior will destroy you and your marriage but you played deaf; the unexpected death of someone very close to you in the prime of their lives. God’s FIRST ALARMS!

God always sound that FIRST ALARM to get our attention. What do we do? Do we simply roll over and hit the ALARM button and say to God – it’s my life, be quiet and let me live it my own way. Or do we take heed to the ALARM and run to the one who offers us safety and the assurance that the ALARM is not going to destroy us but it’s been sounded to save us. In the natural world we respond all sorts of ALARMS. I pray then that what we do in the natural we will also do in the spiritual. Respond to this ALARM.

Today I know that God has set off an ALARM in somebodyÂ’s life. It may be THE FIRST ALARM or it may be that God is sounding a snooze ALARM since you ignored THE FIRST ALARM. I beg you - wake up! Pay attention to GodÂ’s FIRST ALARM. There may not be a second. What if THE FIRST ALARM may also be the last ALARM.
