AN INSIDE JOB

Ever heard of AN INSIDE JOB? INSIDE burglaries are sometimes a bit more difficult to solve. Great care is taken to cover oneÂ’s tracks and to make sure that nothing points to anyone on the INSIDE. The person whoÂ’s on the INSIDE though had privileged information which the outsider doesnÂ’t have. ThatÂ’s what makes it AN INSIDE JOB. For our FF for today I challenge all of us to do a difficult but necessary task: letÂ’s spend some time on doing AN INSIDE JOB.

ItÂ’s always easy to fix the outside. Think about it for a moment. To repairing or even paint the outside of a house is pretty straightforward. Nothing much has to be shifted around. ThereÂ’s no major adjustment that has to be made. ThereÂ’s hardly any inconvenience. Not so when it comes to fixing the INSIDE. Ever try living in an old concrete house where the electrical fittings are being replaced? Dust is everywhere no matter how much you cover up. Or imagine having to get your roof replaced and repainted after a hurricane. You move the furniture from one part of the house to the next until all of the work is done. The truth is AN INSIDE JOB makes us uncomfortable because it demands so much more of us.

Now think of our lives as a building. The irony is that whatÂ’s on the INSIDE is far more valuable than whatÂ’s on the outside. Scripture reminds us that the earthly house (our body) is fading away. Eventually it will die and decay! Yet we spend so much time making sure that the outside is looking its best. We go to the salon to fix our hair. We pamper ourselves with a visit to the spa. We cover up the blemishes with make-up. We wear the best name brands and the latest fashion. Now understand that IÂ’m a firm supporter of doing all you can to make sure that our outsides always look their best. But how different would our lives be if we spent as much as and more time on AN INSIDE JOB as we do on the outside jobs.

Today, the Holy Spirit wants to do AN INSIDE JOB in our lives: erase that unforgiving heart; eliminate the pride that keeps us haughty; remove the anger that consumes us daily; release us from the shame of the past; unbind us from looking religious but not know Christ personally; free us from defeatist thinking; clean and renew our heart and minds so that what we show on the outside is a true reflection of the INSIDE. For the Spirit of God to do AN INSIDE JOB access must be granted. The results may not be apparent immediately. But I know if we allow the Spirit of God to work in us through daily prayer, reading of the Bible and fellowship with other believers, it is only a matter of time before the glow on the outside is a reflection of the INSIDE JOB that God is doing.

Christ described some of the religious people of his day as white washed tombs. Ouch! The outside looking good but INSIDE was only rot and filth. People only see our outside. But God sees and knows whatÂ’s INSIDE of us. My prayer is that we will avail ourselves to God so that the Holy Spirit will reveal to us all that needs to be fixed on the INSIDE. Uncomfortable? Yes! Rewarding? Yes! So letÂ’s do it! ItÂ’s time for AN INSIDE JOB!
