Why, O Lord, Do You Stand Far Off

Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? Psalm 10:1.
This is also part of the Christian’s reality. We do encounter moments of despair, depression and other emotional and spiritual stresses. And the inclination is to think no one cares, or no one can help, even God. The Psalmist wonders what difference does it make to serve God if the ungodly prospers (often more than the believers) and he brags about it. If you serve God with a ‘red eye’ you can get distracted from your real purpose.
Mary said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.’ John 11:32
At bereavement, despair, depression, grief can bring on emotional and spiritual stresses. It is that time when we need the support of the believing community. The bereaved sisters of Lazarus, friend of Jesus were blaming JesusÂ’ delayed response and His absence on the death of their brother. Jesus assured them that his absence only served the greater good of he Kingdom and He raised Lazarus from the dead. I am sure people do react with similar emotions when the support they expected from the Church and minister is delayed. It is evident that mutual respect helped to restore harmony and peace in such situation.
Blessings!
Bishop Clarke.
