Psalm 34:1

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praises shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1

If there was ever a day to praise God, that day is today when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Let us pause for a while and reflect on God’s contribution in the redemption event. In the first place we see God’s love for humanity. So great was that love that he did not allow us to bear the penalty for our wrongdoing – he forgave us. Such love ought to evoke great praise.
Secondly, he made a great sacrifice in allowing his Son to die for our sin. Not only did he forgive us, but he provided for the payment of our debt by giving his son. Most persons would be reluctant to pay anotherÂ’s debt. Many more would evade when it is discovered that such substitution would involve death. But God willingly made that sacrifice for us. This calls for our gratitude and praise.

Thirdly, after the love and the sacrifice, GodÂ’s great power effected the resurrection of Jesus. He did not remain dead but brought great victory to us by rising again. This demonstrates victory over death and over sin. For this he is worthy of our praise.

Therefore on this resurrection day we can joyfully declare “I will praise God forever, for he has done great things for me.” We can join the Psalmist in saying, “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Prayer:
O Lord, when I think of the great work of redemption completed on this day, I join the Psalmist in shouting praise to you and saying ‘Hallelujah’. Amen.
