GodÂ’s Sure Promises

Jesus says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Luke 21:33

Jesus’ words are lasting. What a wonderful assurance! Have you ever thought of that when you considered some of the messages contained in scripture? Do you give it a thought when you consider his promises? Are you ever conscious then of what 2 Cor.1:20 says of him? “For all the promises of God in him are ‘Yea’; and in him are ‘Amen’.” Therefore reflect on some of his promises to you in the new assurance that such promises will not pass away, nor return to him void. (See Isa.55:11)

• One such promise came as Jesus gave the Great Commission. “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matt.28:20) This promise not only suggests God’s presence; it also offers help and support for the fulfilling of the mission.
• The writer to the Hebrews reports: “For he himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’.” (Heb.13:5; see Deut.31:6) This thought was continued in Deut.33:27 as Moses blessed Asher. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” These promises, spoken to Israel, are true for you today.
• “Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name ‘Immanuel’, which is translated ‘God with us’.” (Matt.1:23) Already into the season of Advent, you are, undoubtedly, conscious that this Son has been borne and has lived among humankind on the earth. He then demonstrated great love in dying on the cross for said humanity. He continues to be ‘with us’ in spirit. Therefore he sustains you daily in all your needs and concerns.
• When Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, he was giving that assurance of God’s infinite ability. (Phil.4:13) Such power is to be seen in all God’s children and such assurance is given to every follower of Christ.

These are just a few of the promises of God. They demonstrate his huge commitment to his children and this week’s Watchword assures that he will keep his promises – that for him ‘his promise is his debt’. Live in that assurance, not only for this week, but always.

Prayer: Help me, this week, to remember that all you have promised me will come to pass, for your word will not be broken, but will fulfill that for which it is given Allow me to live joyfully in this assurance always. Amen.
