You Shall Speak

No matter what excuses you have Moses, “You shall speak”. The Lord’s command was in response to what appeared to be Moses’ reluctance to go to Pharaoh for the release of his fellowmen from captivity. What caused his reluctance? Was it more than just that he had “uncircumcised lips” (16:30)? Was it the past that drove fear into him when he recognised that he had to confront the Pharaoh? Or was it the fear of disbelief by his own people (4:1ff)?

Moses was honest in expressing his fears before God and to himself. He recognised his inadequacy or shortcomings. Honesty of this nature will always open the door for experiencing GodÂ’s power in our earthen vessels (2 Cor 4:7). This honesty ought to lead us, servants of God, to greater dependency on the LordÂ’s supreme authority and power given to us either directly or through help from co-workers as we face the challenges in ministry.
The Lord heard Moses’ fears as expressed in chapter 4 and in chapter 6:30 (speech impediment and his fear that Pharaoh would not listen). But the Lord said to Moses, “… you shall speak all that I command you…” It is interesting to note that already the Lord declared it was going to be a tough job for the heart of Pharaoh would be hardened and he indeed would not listen (7:3 - 4). So the question we are led to ask is, why send Moses, if the job seemed like a mission impossible? Read Chapter 7:5.

What message can we glean from TodayÂ’s Daily Text? It is about the Divine authority and power given to Moses, You shall speak. Here, we see the consolation given to Moses in his anxiety and a remedy for his need of faith. Now he has been armed with the LordÂ’s supreme authority and power and Aaron, appointed as his companion and assistant. Therefore, all that was required of Moses was obedience to the Lord in spite of the seeming impossibility of the situation.

What about you? Oh, you may not suffer from speech impediments but there are other hindrances, fears, anxious moments and so onÂ… Recall how the Lord cut down MosesÂ’ excuse in Chapter 4:11-12. The Lord requires us too to leave the result to him and be simply obedient no matter how tough the situation may be with hardened hearts and all. When all is said and done they all shall know that [God is] the Lord. (7:15a).

Let the Doctrinal Text energise you today. Do not worry how you are to speak or what you are to say. That will be given you at the time. Matt 10:19. So speak!!

Until then, join Ron Kenoly in singing:

If You can use anything Lord/You can use me (rept)
Take my hands, Lord and my feet
Touch my heart Lord and speak through me
If You can use anything Lord/ You can use me.

Hallelujah! So Let It Be!!
