The Grace Of The Eternal God

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Rev.1:8

God here declares himself as eternal and from the beginning. He was there at the creation with the invitation “Let us make man in our own image”. He was there throughout the history of the children of Israel, when they could gladly say, “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side!” He was there in Jesus Christ on earth. He is here in the Holy Spirit sustaining and guiding us daily. He is the one who is to return to claim those who walk in his way. He is the first and the last. He is truly here throughout time. But what does that mean to me or you?

The fact that God is with us always and even unto eternity gives an assurance that all will be well. It reminds that his love ever surrounds us. It also reminds that “The will of God will never take you where the grace of God cannot protect you.” Therefore you can be confident. When trials beset you, be confident that “God’s grace is sufficient for you, for his power is made perfect in weakness”. (2 Cor.12:9) Paul was able to acknowledge this as he besought the Lord in relation to ‘his thorn in the flesh’. You, too, can take his grace as satisfying your need. As David Nicholas has said, “God’s promises are like stars; the darker the night the brighter they shine.” In the face of doubt and uncertainty, know that God is present to guide for he has said, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will direct thy paths.” (Prov.3:6) And for the future, be confident that he knows all about tomorrow and has said “Be not anxious about tomorrow … your heavenly father knows that you need these things.” (Matt.6:31-34; Lk.12:29-31)

The Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, is the One who is all along the path of time. He is along your path, or offers to be along your path as well. One quote says, “Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God’s grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God’s grace.” So whether in good times, bad times or regular times, look to God, who is the all-time favourite for any situation.

Prayer: Remind me, O Lord, that you are the very present One, always were and ever will be. Thus, enable me to put my trust in you, confident that you will address all my needs and concerns. Amen.
