Psalm 143:5
I will remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. Psalm 143:5 (NIV)
Having just passed Christmas Day, this text is quite apt, for we would have just celebrated a major work of our Lord. But, of course, the question is whether we have given apt consideration to the work of our Lord amidst all the celebration or if we have forgotten the ‘Christ’ of Christmas and paid attention only to the ‘Mass’ of Christmas.

But, of course, the question is whether we have given apt consideration to the work of our Lord amidst all the celebration or if we have forgotten the ‘Christ’ of Christmas and paid attention only to the ‘Mass’ of Christmas.
In Christmas we see many aspects of the work of our Heavenly Father.
The work of provision:
God provided his Son for us when there was that need for the payment of our penalty for our sin. Jesus Christ was given as a substitute on our behalf.
The work of salvation:
The particular mission of Christ, the Messiah, was that of dying on our behalf so that we might be able to escape spiritual death. He paid our penalty for our sin, thus becoming our Saviour.
The gift of love:
All that was done for us was done out of love. And this was a special gift. Now all we have to do is accept the gift that is offered freely to us so that we may experience fully of his love.
As we approach a new year with its impending challenges, it would be useful to meditate on GodÂ’s work and consider what his hands have done in the past, so that we may confidently entrust the future to him.
Prayer:
Help us, O Lord, as we continue to celebrate this Christmas Season, to recognize your great work of salvation through your great gift of love. Truly, what wondrous things your hands have wrought! To you be the glory! Amen.
