Lenten Request
The Lord has granted me the petition that I made to him. 1 Sam.1:27
Hannah spoke these words after she had given birth to her son and was actually taking him to serve God In the temple. She had requested of God a child, and he had granted her request. Thus she spoke with joy and rejoicing.
At the beginning of the Lenten Season we tend to reflect upon the testing of Jesus in the wilderness. This brings into focus our own propensity to sin as we are, ourselves, tempted day by day. HannahÂ’s observation and declaration can therefore be instructive. The Lord had granted her request. This inspires confidence. If God had granted her request, others can call upon him; he can be expected to grant their requests as well. Hence, in the face of temptation requests can be made to him.

What is your request as we start on this Lenten journey? Jesus gave example as he taught his disciples to pray: “Lead us not into temptation”, “Deliver us from evil”. No doubt you need strength to face and fight the temptation. Surely you need power to overcome and be victorious in the battle! Perhaps you need an escape from the temptation. Hannah made her request and she was granted. You, too, can make your request known to him and he will entertain it. “In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Phil.4:6)
Prayer:
Hear us, Lord, as we daily face temptation. Give us the power to overcome. Grant our requests as you did for Hannah. Amen.
