Psalm 62:7

My salvation and my honour depend on God. Psalm 62:7 (NIV)

There is no greater time than the season of Lent and the Eastertide to recognize that our salvation depends upon God. He provided for it in his son Jesus Christ. Knowing our transgression and our deviation from his way, and recognizing the penalty that would result, God decided to spare us from all the foregoing. He decided to find a scapegoat in his son, to serve as the ultimate sacrifice.
And so Jesus paid the price for our sin, dying physically to conquer death, so that we would not need to experience the spiritual death. Jesus rescued us from such penalty. He became our saviour. Now, all we need to do is accept that he has taken our place for our sin and claim the salvation he offers. His honour and glory would become ours as well, as we would then be more like him in character. We can therefore sing with the hymn-writer:
“Jesus, source of my salvation,
Conqueror of death and hell,
Thou who didst, as my oblation,
Suffer more than tongue can tell,
Through thy sufferings death, and merit,
I eternal life inherit;
Thousand, thousand thanks to thee,
Dearest Lord, forever be.” (Hymn 86 v.1)

Prayer:
Lord, we thank you for providing salvation for us and offering us the honour and glory that are yours. Help us to continually walk in your way of salvation so that we may anticipate reigning with you in glory. Amen.
