KEEP SEARCHING!

ItÂ’s been nearly 3 weeks now since the SEARCH for Malaysian Airlines flight MH 370 began. This is one news item that has captured the worldÂ’s attention. ItÂ’s hard to count the number of theories that have emerged trying to offer some sort of explanation as to what might have happened on board the aircraft that would have led to its disappearance. Was it a terrorist act? What about the pilots? Was it mechanical failure? Can we point fingers to the two Iranian passengers with stolen passports? What about the 5 passengers who checked in but never boarded the plane? Whatever the cause, the one thing that we are sure about is that after nearly 21 days, there are ships and planes from numerous countries all working together in the SEARCH for this plane. Though there is the fear for the worst, there is a resolve to KEEP SEARCHING until they find the exact location of all the debris that have been seen via satellites. As we continue to remember in prayer all those who have been directly impacted by this tragedy, I invite us to reflect on just one of the many lessons that can be learnt from this incident. Our FF for today expresses that and it is KEEP SEARCHING!

Regardless of how long it takes, the cost involved or even of the remoteness of the location and the bad weather in that part of the Indian Ocean, we can be guaranteed that this is one SEARCH that will not be aborted. Even though at this stage they may no longer be SEARCHING for survivors, there will be a SEARCH for their physical remains and recovery of their bodies. Furthermore, they will KEEP SEARCHING until they find the ‘black boxes’ so that investigators can figure out what went wrong during that flight. The SEARCH will continue because there is too much at stake. Everybody is desperate to get some answers. Families want closure. Governments are making demands to know what happened to their citizens. Engineers at Boeing also want to ensure that it was not their fault. The executives at Malaysian Airlines too want to get to the bottom of this so that they can undo the damage that this has caused to their brand. And so with so much to be gained what other option is there but to KEEP SEARCHING?

What if the same resolve that is being taken in the SEARCH for flight MH 370 was applied to our lives and the SEARCH for God and God’s purpose? How different would our lives be if we also understood that the incentives to be had in our SEARCH for God are beyond anything that we can ever imagine? How can we help persons to see that what they are really SEARCHING for – joy, peace, happiness, satisfaction, success, wholeness – can only be found in God? In actuality, our SEARCH for God results in nothing less than life, eternal life! So what the Lord says to Israel through the prophet Amos (5:4) is something that we too need to hear: This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live.” Jesus himself gives us this wonderful assurance as he promised that when we KEEP SEARCHING for God we will be duly rewarded. In Matt. 7: 7, Jesus promises “…seek and you will find…” Now God doesn’t tell us how long the SEARCH will take. Neither do we know where the SEARCH may lead us. But there is a comfort that God does give to those who KEEP SEARCHING. It is this, “You will seek me and find me when you SEARCH for me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13

So letÂ’s continue to be in prayer for those who are SEARCHING in the vast Indian Ocean for MH370 that their SEARCH will soon bear fruit. At the same time, might their actions cause us to reflect that we too should be as unyielding and persevering in our SEARCH for God and GodÂ’s purpose! It is a SEARCH that promises untold blessings in this life and the life that is to come. So letÂ’s be firm in our minds that, come what may, we will KEEP SEARCHING!
