Elect of God
I will take you as my people and I will be your God. Exodus 6: 7
Moses has returned to Egypt and his people with the message of deliverance from God. God is unfolding a plan for their freedom. He has gone to Pharaoh as sent but it has somehow made the situation worse for the children of Israel. Rather than things suddenly getting better with the arrival of Moses, GodÂ’s sent messenger, the opposite has taken place. Pharaoh stands defiant in the face of the message of God and the cries of the burdened people of God have gotten louder. How could this be? HavenÂ’t they endured enough?

There was however unexpected hope for the burdened people of God. God would deliver them and His promise made to Abraham would be kept. As promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God would be their God and take them as His people. And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. Gen. 17: 7. They had to know for certain that it was God who had chosen them and that God would deliver them. They were not like other peoples around. They were the elect of God. Truth of the matter is that we often forget how long lasting a relationship this is. To be the elect of God is a forever relationship. The soul will live forever and will eternally be in need of the supporting power and energy of God. Forever is so out of the dimension and understanding of humanity that God himself has to be the one to make this pact, this covenant with humankind. God takes the initiative on our behalf.
Elect of God, you are in the process of experiencing your deliverance. It may not seem so at the moment. Things may be getting worse rather than better but worry not. Joy comes in the morning. Things get worse just before it get better. God has not abandoned you but is preparing you for the deliverance that is to come. Learn to trust God because regardless of how long it takes, God will keep his promise to be your God and make you His child. As Peter says: Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. 2 Pet. 1: 10. In this season of Advent, find hope in your calling as an elect of God.
Till next Tuesday, be blessed!
