ENJOY YOUR LIFE!

This year for the months of July and August, our FF will be drawn from earlier submissions. This month will draw upon FF articles dating back to 2009. For those who donÂ’t know, the weekly FF was birthed as we were planning for a youth and young adult convention called Take it Back (TIB) which was held in Trinidad in 2006. Each Friday participants were invited to join together to focus on the approaching event. The FF has been going since then and for that we say thanks be to God!

Some things when said can easily be made light of depending on whoÂ’s speaking, the one to whom the words are being addressed or the context in which the words are spoken. It could also be that weÂ’ve heard certain words so often that we can play them down. The words for our FF run such a risk. Yet I invite you to take these words and for one moment do not undermine what theyÂ’re calling upon you to do. Our FF for today is ENJOY YOUR LIFE.

While living in New Jersey, I was on my way to a church to conduct a choir rehearsal for the first time. Since I had never been in that particular direction before I was extra careful to make sure that I stayed on TRACK with the directions I was given. However somewhere along the journey I must have made a wrong turn because I found myself facing a big sign saying ‘Welcome to Pennsylvania’. Although I thought I was being careful, knowing where I wanted to go, I was now on the wrong TRACK heading in the wrong direction. There were two options, either continue on the wrong path or turn around and GET BACK ON TRACK. I chose the latter. Today our FF is a challenge to all of us to GET BACK ON TRACK!

It is said that a seasoned criminal does not know how to handle freedom and so would do anything to get back into jail. Could it be that for such persons jail is the only form of freedom that they know? But let’s not be too quick to judge such persons as fools, weak or having a twisted inner moral compass. Not everybody who has tasted the extremes of both freedom and bondage find it easy to make what we would consider the obvious and better choice between the two – freedom – not bondage. Yet if we’re not vigilant we too can find ourselves drawn back from experiencing a life of freedom to one of being in bondage; from being delivered to being re-captured. So for our FF today the Lord is saying to us to STAY DELIVERED.

SIT STILL AND SEE!

There was a certain generation of parents who raised their children with this constant command – SIT STILL. It was spoken at specific times like when a girl’s hair was being braided and of course while you were in Church. With that command was the expectation there would be little or no movement whatsoever and that the normally restless child would somehow have a change of behaviour that would cause him/her to focus on what was considered to be of primary importance. Some kids then and even today still find it extremely difficult to SIT STILL. But grownups too still struggle with this charge. So then our FF for today is SIT STILL AND SEE.
