GodÂ’s Creative Word

Greetings from Bethlehem Moravian Seminary, Pennsylvania, my new location for the next two years as I pursue further studies. I crave your prayers.

Genesis 1: 3 God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

I have always been somewhat fascinated by the simplicity of the creation story. “and God said ….. and there was”. There is nothing scientifically complex about the creation according to Genesis. What is there is a lot of faith. God spoke the creation into being, all of it. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. Ps. 33: 6. The light was God’s very first act of creation. Prior to that there was darkness, nothing. The light did not come from the darkness, it came from God’s spoken word and it overpowered the darkness, the nothingness.

ACCEPT YOUR ASSIGNMENT!

As was done last year, for the month of August, each week our FF will be drawn from some of the early submissions. This month the FF that is being repeated dates back to 2008/2009. For those who donÂ’t know, the weekly FF was birthed as we were planning for a youth and young adult convention called Take it Back (TIB) which was held in Trinidad in 2006. Starting in 2005, each Friday the participants were invited to join together and focus on the upcoming event. The FF has been going since then and has expanded to reach many others. Well here we are now in 2011. Thanks be to God!

With the start of another school year, students at every level have found themselves again with the task of having to complete one ASSIGNMENT after another. But the same is true for all of us. On our jobs, we have ASSIGNMENTs. At home, each member of the family has an ASSIGNMENT. Even in the Church, we all have some sort of ASSIGNMENT to carry out. The FF for today is a call to ACCCEPT YOUR ASSIGNMENT.

GOD'S VERY OWN!

For the past week, the world's focus has been on Wall Street and stock markets all around the globe. The news from every single financial expert has not been anything to be glad about. Many have lost their life's savings and retirement investments. Others have been left homeless and practically begging.

GodÂ’s Words Keep us Godly.

[Friends, my vehicle was broken into on Sunday and my phones stolen. All my contact info has been lost. Please let me have your phone numbers and BB pins again so we can keep in touch. Blessings.]

Psalm 19: 7 The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Pastor Dwight Wright in his book, ‘The Power of Words’ shows the power that the spoken words have over not only those who speak but also over those who hear. Words, he puts forward, has the power to make or break you. In today’s text, the Psalmist David in his meditating on God goes through steps. In the second step in which our text falls, we are reminded of our sinfulness in the face of God’s holiness. The words of God serves the purpose of showing us who we are and should wise us up to being what we ought to be in Christ.

ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY!

How can you tell that someone is maturing? We often look at the changes that are taking place physically as indicators that one is maturing. But for today's FF, I want for us to consider one critical variable that speaks to one's level of maturity. It is being able to ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY.

The Object of Our Trust.

17 The war horse is a vain hope for victory, and by its great might it cannot save.
18 Truly the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love,
Psalm 33: 17 – 18.

As a child I used to sing with gusto, the chorus that says ‘some trust in chariots and, some in horses but we will remember the name of the Lord our God…’. Remember it? I later learnt that this was from Psalm 20: 7. Interestingly, one translation substitutes the word boast for trust. What that says to me is that we tend to boast on what we trust in. I ask you today then, what or who do you boast about.

I'M CHANGING!

As was done last year, for the month of August, each week our FF will be drawn from some of the early submissions. This month will draw upon FF dating back to 2008/2009. For those who donÂ’t know, the weekly FF was birthed as we were planning for a youth and young adult convention called Take it Back (TIB) which was held in Trinidad in 2006. Life is filled with CHANGE. People CHANGE. Situations CHANGE! Circumstances CHANGE. Seasons CHANGE. Everything and everyone around us are constantly CHANGING – either for better or worse. Some CHANGES are inevitable and are the result of the movement of time. Some CHANGES are intentional while others are the result of the ebb and flow of life’s ups and downs. There are some CHANGES that we embrace because they delight us. Yet there are others that we would rather not happen because of the accompanying pain. CHANGE, though necessary, is not always easy. But today I invite us to make this confession for our FF: I’M CHANGING!

Secret Servant or Living Witness?

{My apologies for being absent without warning. Relocating comes with its fair share of problems. I am now in Jamaica and will move onward before the end of this month. Will keep you posted. Continue to pray for Bishop Foster and family as they mourn the loss of Sr. Pauline and my own family [I lost an aunt, and we will soon be separated three ways for a while]}

May God be gracious to us and bless us. Psalm 67: 1

TodayÂ’s text is from a well quoted Psalm. It is one of the shorter Psalms and the authorship is unknown. It is generally believed that it was written for one of the harvest feasts. It is a Psalm which carries a global focus, dealing with GodÂ’s relationship with the entire world. It begins with a prayer for GodÂ’s graciousness and blessings to be extended to His people Israel, but continues from then to focus on God being visible and actively involved in all the nations of the earth because of His work among His people.
