OUT TO KILL!

Although the sixth commandment clearly states, “Thou shall not KILL” (Exo. 20:13), people still KILL. There’s something in our fallen human nature that pushes us to want to destroy and KILL. Somehow we think that whatever we KILL we have the power over. And there’s no greater power than to feel as if you can determine if someone lives or dies. Wow! We’ve all heard of serial KILLERS who every time they KILL are driven to KILL again. And when we hear of such persons in the news, there’s a mix of emotions. It’s fair to assume that for such persons with each passing day, they have but one goal – TO KILL. They are constantly looking for the easy target. Such people set OUT TO KILL. That’s our FF for today: OUT TO KILL!

God Will Make a Way!

[Condolences to the Goulbourne family on the passing of Br. Audley [Teacher G] who was called home to glory. He was the father of Rev. Earl Goulbourne and Sr. Yvonne Clarke. Servant of God well done]

Isaiah 43: 16 The LORD makes a way in the sea,
a path in the mighty waters.

Imagine the nation of Israel at the banks of the Red Sea. They desperately need to cross but there is no way open to them. Hear the cry of Moses recorded in Exodus 14: 13 – 14 13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” The rest, as they say, is history. A path opened through the sea for God’s people to cross, and closing over their enemies, destroying them.

CHANGE COURSE

A few days ago, like millions of viewers around the world, I tuned into CNN to witness the lift off of the space shuttle Endeavour. What a magnificent sight! Everything went like clockwork. The shuttle rolled at the set time. The boosters were dislodged from its body. And within minutes this marvel of humanityÂ’s invention had broken through the pull of gravity on earth and was into outer space. Its COURSE was set for the international space centre where it eventually docked on Wednesday morning. Although both the crew on board the shuttle and personnel on the ground at NASA were all involved in the launch, much of the work was actually done by computers. Engineers had already preprogrammed the COURSE that the shuttle was to take during takeoff in order to get it into orbit. If for any reason these computers caused the shuttle to CHANGE COURSE, Wednesday morning would have been a different story. For sure the shuttle would have still ended up in space but certainly not at its intended destination. Our FF for today calls us all to consider that it may be time for us to CHANGE COURSE.

Worshipping Christ.

Psalm 72: 11 May all kings bow down to him
and all nations serve him.

Psalm 72 is a Psalm of Solomon. In the Psalm Solomon prays for the reign of the Messiah on earth. What a glorious time that will be. The groaning of God’s creation will be stilled, and it will be a time of peace and prosperity such as the world has never known. All will know that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, and bow to him in reverence and service. Many will come to see and to hear him, kings will bow down in surrender to Him and nations will vow to serve him in spirit and in truth. This season began when our Savior walked on the earth. Many sought Him and many in high positions were anxious to hear about Him. Sadly however, they were not prepared to ‘bow before Him’, that is, to submit themselves totally to His will.

BE MORE TENDER & LESS TOUGH

Did any of us while growing up walked around bare footed? For some, that was the case simply because you may have had two pairs of shoes – one for church and the other for school. And if there was a third it was for those times when you were going out. Running up and down around the neighborhood didn’t qualify as going out. But if you recall those days of walking around without shoes, you will also remember getting cuts or having some thorn pushed all the way in feet and trying to get it out with a needle. But as TENDER as your feet may have been, constantly walking around bare footed eventually led to what was TENDER becoming TOUGH. Similarly life has a way of causing us to go from being TENDER to TOUGH. Our FF calls us though, to BE MORE TENDER & LESS TOUGH.

Whose Will?

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64: 8.

Israel prays to God to save them, even as He has saved them in the past. They are mindful however that their current condition of sinfulness has brought the anger of God against them. They wonder if they are beyond hope, if they have gone too far this time. Will God help them even though they have become so unclean? The best they do is still far from clean in GodÂ’s sight. Their sinfulness has caused God to leave their presence. Yet it is to God that they now look for mercy, pardon and grace. No matter how far we stray from God, we must never lose sight of His presence nor should we lose hope that He will continue to call us back to His presence and will.

DON'T EAT YOUR VOMIT!

There is an image that I came across a few days ago that I found utterly disgusting. Proverbs 26: 11 says “As a dog returns to its VOMIT, so a fool repeats his foolishness.” When food is placed before us we readily eat. We savor the taste. Our palate is satisfied. We eat to our heart’s (and stomach’s) delight. But as tasty as that food may be going down, it’s a whole other taste if for some reason we have to VOMIT it. That’s the part that’s gross and disgusting. Why? Because what comes back up is nowhere near as tasty as what would have gone down into the stomach a few hours before.

The Lord, My Stronghold!

Psalm 118: 14 The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.

The setting is the Temple in Jerusalem where crowds are gathered to celebrate the coming of IsraelÂ’s long awaited Messiah. The Psalm is written as a responsive song, led by a soloist with the entire congregation responding. It was written as an expression of confidence in GodÂ’s eternal love. Situations around us change by the minute. GodÂ’s love for us however remains unchanged and unchanging throughout the ages.
