Live The Life!

My righteousness is near,
my salvation has gone forth,
and my arm will judge the peoples. Isaiah 51: 5

There are times when we feel all alone on this pathway of faith. When we feel as if everyone is going their own way, without a single thought of anyone else. At such times we begin to reflect on our relationship with God and we realize that God never leaves us nor forsakes us, but journeys with us every step of the way. This further causes us to realize that GodÂ’s presence with us is a guarantee of support from the people of God who journey along with us. Highly visible at times, almost invisible other times, but always there. The child of God should be humbled and made grateful by this fact.

OMG = OFFERING MY GIFTS

I’m pretty sure that we have received at some point in time some surprising or shocking news that caused you to blurt out ‘O My Gosh!’ Depending on how sanctified you are the last work could be ‘God’ or ‘goodness’ (hopefully nothing stronger). But whichever phrase comes readily to our mouths its online equivalent these days is OMG. As we come to the last Friday of September for our FF today we want to consider OMG = OFFERING MY GIFTS.

The Future Belongs to God Alone

Today’s text comes to us from Zechariah 10: 2 - diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. A diviner is a person who tries to foretell the future or the unknown. They give a forecast or at best, a clever guess. It is the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of a standardized process or ritual. Another name for diviners is soothsayers. The word divination means to foresee or to be inspired by a god. From the Bible’s teachings we realize that there was the kind of divination which God allowed, but its use was restricted to people whom God appointed. However, divination by members of other religious sects, for example in the context of witchcraft and necromancy, is forbidden. We get a good example of divination in Acts 16. Here we have Paul and Silas going to worship and are met by a slave girl who is described as having a ‘spirit by which she predicted the future’ v. 16. Through fortune telling she had earned a lot of money for her owners. The Bible tells us that for days she kept following them, saying ‘these men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.’ v 17. Paul eventually invoked the name of Jesus and commanded the spirit to leave her. It did.

SUP = SAVING UNSAVED PEOPLE!

One of the first online greetings that U R likely to see is ‘wassup’ or sometimes abbreviated to SUP. It is the lingo that simply means how R U doing? It’s you expressing interest in the other person’s well being and wanting to just know how things are generally. The answer to those three letters varies since often times how you really feel cannot be fully expressed. As we continue looking at online chat phrases and how we can use them as doorways to presenting the Gospel of Christ, today I want us to reflect on those three letters: SUP. Let’s see them as pointing to the purpose of the Body of Christ which is also the reason for Christ coming into the world. So our FF for today reminds us that our calling very simply is to SAVE UNSAVED PEOPLE.

BRB = BROKENNESS REAPS BLESSINGS!

Have you ever asked someone how he/she is doing and they tell you something like, “I’m BLESSED and highly favoured.” That is a positive declaration and ought to be encouraged for life and death lies in the power of our tongue. What we profess and confess over our lives will eventually come to pass especially if we keep repeating it. I don’t know of any person, Christian or not who doesn’t desire to be BLESSED. In fact it can be said that God BLESSES all of us in some way. If nothing else life itself is a BLESSING. But there is a unique BLESSING that comes with BROKENNESS. We don’t often make this connection, but today for our FF as we continue to borrow the abbreviations from internet chat, we reflect on BRB. In chat lingo BRB = BE RIGHT BACK. But for our FF today we consider BRB = BROKENNESS REAPS BLESSINGS. That’s our FF for today BRB = BROKENNESS REAPS BLESSINGS.

Go

Then the master said to the slave, "Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled." Luke 14:23

Jesus continued to teach about the coming of the Kingdom of God and how we should prepare for it. While sharing in a feast at a Pharisee's house he relates the parable of the Great Banquet. Jesus continued to share using the occasion of this parable in order to make it clear that not everyone would enter the Kingdom of God. In this parable, a man prepared a great banquet and invited many guests. After sending his servant to welcome his guest the servant returned with the disappointing news that all the guests had sent excuses as to why they were not able to attend the banquet. Finally he sent the servant out with a command. "Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled." Continue reading "Go"

In His Presence

Have you ever felt as if there was no one you could turn to for support or encouragement? Are you sometimes made to feel as if you are not worth anything to anyone? To feel like no one cares for you or for what you are going through? If any of these descriptions apply to you, then I believe todayÂ’s text speaks directly to you. In Ezekiel 34: 30 we find these words Then they will know that I, the LORD their God, am with them and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Sovereign LORD. This declaration by God comes at the end of the chapter in which God has been speaking through the prophet of His intention to intervene directly into the lives of His people who were being misled by the religious leaders of the day. The leaders were more interested in themselves than in the people they led and thus judgment was pronounced upon them. God Himself would rescue His people. He would take care of their individual needs and bless them.

Godly Confidence

Since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,by the new and living way that he opened for us, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith. Hebrews 10:19-20,22

We enter the Christian Faith with much anticipation and expectation even as we seek to experience this whole new covenant that God has called us to. There are so many different challenges we face, and being a Christian sometimes enforces a greater level of responsibility on us, as we must keep the faith no matter what the circumstances are. We face all this and yet we are able to hang on and press on while we are pushed to the limit at times. What is it that gives us this assurance so that we can approach life believing that God is able? Continue reading "Godly Confidence"

LOL = LIGHTS ON LIVING!

If you haven’t realized it, the internet has created a whole new way of communicating. In this virtual online world there’s a whole new language associated with the use of what we term instant messaging ways of speaking – MSN Messenger, Face Book, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Twitter and others. But if you want to keep up with this modern trend you have to know the #1 unwritten rule – use as little words as possible to say what you want to say. So whether texting or chatting on line you have to know the meaning of certain abbreviations or you’ll be soon lost. I remember the first time someone typed LOL to me. At first I was tempted to pretend that I knew what it meant but then I swallowed my pride and asked. I found out that LOL = Laugh Out Loud. For the month of September I want to use some of the new online lingo for our FF. We begin today by accepting the call to LOL = LIGHTS ON LIVING.

Sanctified By His Blood

He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities.
Isaiah 53:5

The world, as it has been, is shaped in iniquity and characterized by sin. Each day we live and interact with each other, the power of sin causes us to transgress and grieve God. We may try our best to live a righteous, Godly and sober life; we try to keep our lives intact and stay away from error. Try as we may we still miss the mark, we still fall short, we still struggle to do good and live up to God's dictates. Continue reading "Sanctified By His Blood"
