God's Protection

You bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover them with favor as with a shield
(Psm. 5:12).

Take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one (Eph. 6:16).

We are always in need of the Lord’s protection. Life has so many pitfalls and dangerous pathways that we tread daily, often without knowing the dangers to which we are exposed. How good it is, therefore, to know that the All-Seeing God not only knows the way we go but walks with us and gives His protection. The more vulnerable we feel the more we can rely on the protection of the Almighty. He assures us, “I will not leave you or forsake you” (Jos.1:5; Heb.13:5 & 6). Continue reading "God's Protection"

Forgiveness, What a Joy!

Psalm 130: 3. If you, O LORD should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

In this Psalm the writer calls upon the Lord out of the depths of despair. He recognizes that God is able to help him regardless of whatever else was happening around him. The word that is translated iniquity literally means lawlessness or wickedness. The Psalmist is actually asking the LORD what would happen to him if the Lord were in the habit of noting every single act of unrighteousness he committed and demanding payment for each. To mark iniquity means to keep a record of wrong. TodayÂ’s society likes to keep records. We donÂ’t forget easily and we are unforgiving. If God were to treat us this way the situation would be hopeless for us. Instead, the LORD has provided for us a way in which our sins can be forgiven, and our record kept clean. Yes dear friends, there is forgiveness for the guilty sinner and there is forgiveness for the sinning saint.

Who Are You Serving?

Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let the one who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat? says the Lord (Jer. 23:28).

Am I now seeking human approval, or GodÂ’s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ (Gal. 1:10).

Who are you serving, the Lord or yourself? This is a word that I think is addressed to us Pastors and Church Workers. It is a word to us who carry the awesome responsibility for the word of the Lord, the responsibility to live it, preach it and teach it. When that word goes forth from us, whose word is it? Is it our word, or is it GodÂ’s word? Continue reading "Who Are You Serving?"

Unworthy Though We Be

We have all become like one who is unclean and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth (Isa.64:6).

The Son of God had provided purification for sins (Heb. 1:3).

The Watch Word comes from Jeremiah’s prayer unto God. Here he makes confession on behalf of himself and his people before the Lord – “We have all become like one who is unclean and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth”. Do you sometimes feel like that when you come to pray? Do you recognize that there is nothing in you which makes you worthy to come before the Lord God? And then you marvel that God is even listening to your prayer.

You know, David recognized this fact of his complete unworthiness when he prayed, “Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me” (Psa.51:11). And so is everyone who has sinned before God – completely unworthy. “We have all become like one who is unclean and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth”. Let Us Sing Unto The Lord

O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! (Psm. 95:1)

To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen (Rom.16:27).

Honouring God is our privilege. When we sing to His praise and glory we are honouring God. Singing is a reflection of the abundant life we have in Christ Jesus. Salvation seems to put a song in the heart of every Christian, so there is always music in the soul, the expression of a happy soul, praising and glorifying God. KEEP YOUR PROMISE

WeÂ’ve all heard the saying that a PROMISE is a comfort to a fool. It suggests that you shouldnÂ’t believe all of PROMISES made to you. A PROMISE made does not necessarily mean that it will be a PROMISE kept. Depending on whoÂ’s making the PROMISE we can say that we know for a fact that what has been PROMISEd will be kept. But there are some persons whose reputation is of such that when they make a PROMISE you take it with a pinch of salt. In the case of politicians we may need more than a pinch in holding them to their PROMISES. Yet politicians are not the only ones who donÂ’t KEEP their PROMISES. You and I are just as guilty. We too make a PROMISE and fail to keep it. So today for our FF, I encourage all of us to KEEP YOUR PROMISE.

Praise God Always

Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Praise the Lord (Psm.150:6)

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice (Phil.4:4)

It’s the “always” that is of concern to us, is it not? We understand the need to rejoice, but is it possible to rejoice under all circumstances?

In the passage from which our text comes –Phil.4:1-7 – Paul alluded to disagreement (v 1), and to anxiety (v 6). There must have been reasons for the disagreement and the anxiety, and such circumstances surely do not make for rejoicing. And Paul was certainly aware of their concern or conflict. He would have heard their verbal or non-verbal question at his exhortation to rejoice. “How can anyone rejoice under these circumstances?” So he responded, (“Yes) again I say to you rejoice”. Every Christian Is "Called"

I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Hear am I, send me!” (Isa.6:8).

Christ prayed, “As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world” (Jhn. 17:18).

Every Christian is called to the mission field. That’s right. Every Christian is called and commissioned to work in the vineyard of the Lord. And the vineyard of the Lord is the world. Of course there are those who are further called and commissioned to specific assignments and responsibilities such as Pastors and other “full-time” workers in the Church (Read Eph.4:11-14). But the life’s work of every one who accepts Christ as Lord and Saviour is to be a Christian, and to be a Christian is to serve the Lord faithfully by witnessing to others. So in a real sense every true believer in Christ says, “Here I am, Lord, send me”. Continue reading "Every Christian Is "Called""

God Will Take Us Through

My soul languishes for your salvation, I hope in your word. Ps. 119: 81

The Christian life is a journey in which we have to go through in order to come through. The Psalmist emphasizes the importance of the Word of God in our lives and how it keeps us pure while helping us to grow in faith. There is no other sure guide to living a pure life than the Word of God. Apart or away from God’s Word we are bound to suffer spiritual degradation. The psalmist states, ‘my soul languishes for your salvation’. What he is declaring here is the suffering of his soul, almost to the point of decay because of the absence of God’s word.

Peace

Those of steadfast minds you keep in peace – in peace, because they trust in you (Isa.26:3).

It is God who establishes us with you in Christ (2 Cor.1:21).

The NIV translation of 2 Cor.1:21 is as follows: “Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ”. In other words, our texts for today are saying that those who stand firm in Christ experience peace even as they trust in Him.

Peace is not the absence of trouble. We have peace even in the midst of our troubles because we trust in Christ. Our texts exhort us to stand firm in Christ. Don’t lose your faith in Christ because of trouble. Some persons believe that because they are Christians trouble should not come their way. Others believe that if trouble comes it is because their faith is not strong enough, or because God has abandoned them because of their sins.. But Jesus did not promise us a trouble – free life. On the contrary, He said, “In the world you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world” (Jn.16:33). And in this same verse Jesus says, “In me you may have peace” Continue reading "Peace"

Teach Me To do Your Will

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good spirit lead me on a level path (Psa. 143:10).

Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. (Phil.3:12).

The “Watch Word” may well be the prayer of a young person setting out on the pathway of life, facing the unknown way, the lonely way, or even the hazardous and life-threatening way. He knows he cannot trust himself nor depend upon himself. So he pauses to do the only sensible thing – throw himself upon God, the Almighty. Continue reading "Teach Me To do Your Will"

I'll Never Let You Go

Nevertheless I am continually with you: you hold my right hand (Psm.73:23).

Christ says, “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one (Jn.10:29-30).

It sounds almost too good to be true, does it not? Jesus says, “No one can snatch them out of my hand”. And as it were, affirming the guarantee to us he says, “No one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand”. This is the promise, yea rather, the assurance that Christ gives to us, and, as if we would find it hard to accept, He gives a further guarantee, He says, this is not just my commitment, it is the Father’s. You Are Mine

God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them (Gen.1:27)

He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him (Eph. 1:4)

You know the story of the little boy and his boat? I donÂ’t know where it originated, probably from some preacher.

The little boy – let us call him Christopher - made his toy boat. (Maybe it was his home project from school and his father would have assisted him in making it.) When he was satisfied that it was well done, he loved it. He then took it down to the edge of the water (it may have been a lake) and he put it on the water and was delighted to see it float. Alas, however, while he was admiring his boat floating, as it was supposed to do, it was floating away from him until it got out of his reach and his sight. He had lost his boat. Then Christopher went back home disappointed and sad, and he told the story how he had lost his boat. Continue reading "You Are Mine"

EXPECT ANYTHING AT ANYTIME

Each day of our lives we all live with EXPECTations. We EXPECT our eyes to open each morning at the start of a new day. We EXPECT our vehicles will start and get us around. We EXPECT our family to come back home at the end of the day. We EXPECT to be paid by our employers. We EXPECT an airline to get us to our final destination since weÂ’ve paid for our ticket. If youÂ’re single, you may still EXPECT one day to find the right man or woman to marry. A wife EXPECTs support from her husband and vice versa. But what happens when what we EXPECT doesnÂ’t always unfold the way we EXPECTed? Do we lower our EXPECTations or worse yet live EXPECTing nothing? I invite us to consider todayÂ’s FF: EXPECT ANYTHING AT ANYTIME.

God Delivers

It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save (Isa.63:1).

Paul said, “To this day I have had help from God, and so I stand here, testifying to both small and great” (Act. 26:22).

The passage from which the “Watch Word” for today is taken presents a dialogue between the Prophet and God. The Prophet sees the Lord coming like a warrior in blood-stained garments. So he asks, who is this? The Lord replies, “It is I, speaking in righteousness”. In other words, the Lord says, I am announcing vindication for my people Israel; I am announcing that right has won the day. He said, he had defeated the enemy (Edom),yea, destroyed him. He did it alone. “I have trodden the winepress alone, from the nations no one was with me” (Isa.63:3). Continue reading "God Delivers"
